Candyshop war series. By Brandon Mull.
(reading level: V)
If you are looking for a thrilling , sweetened novel that will keep you glued to the pages, this is the book to read.It is perfect for readers to curl up on the couch with a handful of marshmallows, or on second thought, grapes, because this book may fix your sweet tooth!
In The Candyshop War, the story follows a boy named Nate who just moved into town. There, he finds a club called the Blue Falcons, who investigate things. The club consists of a girl named Summer, and two boys named Pigeon and Trevor.
Nate joins their group, and soon they start working for Ms White, the owner of the new candy shop that just opened across the street.
At first it was just normal errands, like cleaning tables and washing windows. But soon, Ms White had gotten a little weird, telling them to steal stuff, give addictive white fudge to adults as samples, digging up graves, and rewarding them with magical candy. Of course they did it, with the objective of magical candy in mind. But soon they discover Ms White is not as sweet as her candy, and some of her candy can be very sinister. Things have gone too far when Ms White reveals that Mr. Stott, another candyman that they are friendly with, is a magician like her. She asks them to wipe his memory with a “Clean Slate”.
Now, Nate is not sure who is the good side and bad side here. His parents and all the other adults he knows are ignorant because of the white fudge. With no helpers other than the strange substitute and the candy he has left over, Nate and his friends set out to find who can tell them the truth, and not just a bunch of sweetened lies.
The Candyshop War is a good book for those who liked The Dragon with a Chocolate Heart. There are many similarities. This book is absolutely amazing for fantasy readers and will keep you waiting for the sequel.
